Sanya: A Cannes-like Holiday Resort |

It's said that Sanya is China's most promising candidate as an international holiday resort, given the chains of internationally famed hotels alongside Yalongwan (Asian dragon bay). Indeed, just for the purpose of holidays, Yalongwan is like Cannes' Boulevard de la Croissette, full of vigor and charm.

However, as is known to most people, Cannes doesn't make its name as a little holiday city in South France boasting Boulevard de la Croisette. Instead, it's best known as the host city of the annual Festival De Cannes. So is Sanya. The annual Miss World contest was held in Sanya in 2003 and 2004. Ever since 2002,the annual Xinsilu (new silk road) Model Contest Finals started to take place in Sanya. The International Wedding Festival is held in November each year at Tianyahaijiao (sky boundary and sea corner) celebrating newly wedded, golden wedding, silver wedding and so on. The International Coconut Festival occurs on the third day of the third month, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, each year by Li and Miao (two of Chinese ethnic minorities) people for matchmaking. from China Daily |
